Method

This is a possible opening to a Harold but it’s also an exercise in its own right.

This is how it goes:

  1. Create an object collectively by using Scene painting tools. Use phrases like “It is…” or “They are…” - use details, be specific, build it slowly, build it together.
  2. Now you are talking to the object, telling it what it does to you, giving it emotions. “You are…”
  3. “Thou art…” Worship it with big, bold flowery words. Create a title for the thing - overblown, verbose nomenclature.
  4. Finally, you become the object. “I am…” This works best with simple, powerful, singular words. The final thing spoken altogether is “I am [OBJECT].”

Teaching Notes

Students will get hung up and worried with each stage, encourage them to find inspiration in momentum.

The object can be formed with the performers bodies Oh mighty goddess style.

This is a loose structure and can be used in many different ways - nothing is cannon.
