Method

Circle up.

There are FOUR levels to the name game.

LEVEL ONE: Point to someone and say YOUR NAME. Play continues in order of pointing.

LEVEL TWO: Point to someone and say THEIR NAME. Play continues in order of pointing.

LEVEL THREE: Say YOUR NAME and then THEIR NAME. Move from your space to their space. This mixes up the circle order. Play continues with the movement.

LEVEL FOUR: Point to someone and say who they are going to POINT AT NEXT. Play continues with pointing.

Teaching notes

LEVEL ONE

This is easy. It's just saying your own name. We can do this 100x faster than we're currently doing it.

Try to point to people you don't know the name of. They will then magically say their own name as part of the game. Remember it.

LEVEL TWO

If you only know one persons name, you can still play this level well. Just keep pointing to that one person (but challenge yourself not to do this).

LEVEL THREE

Sometimes we append a name to a position in the circle. You can't do that anymore. Move with purpose but don't bang into people.

LEVEL FOUR

It makes your brain explode. Know that this happens to everyone. It's the first level where you don't get to pick who you're going to point at.

It's nice at the end of the exercise to get people to look around the room and ascertain how many names they now know. Just to themselves, it's not a test.

In one variation you can use different voices as you play - Pirate, Mickey Mouse, give an emotion etc.
