Method

Students divide into pairs (or small groups) and act out a scene where their guardian angels are in the pub together. They are there to talk about their ‘humans’ (ie. the improvisers themselves).

They talk about everything that is inspiring and challenging their humans and commiserate together.

Teaching Notes

This isn’t a performance scene, it’s a way for improvisers to speak candidly.

There’s something about talking about yourself in the third person that is especially freeing.

People are also kinder to themselves in the third person.

It’s a lovely get to know you game and a great way to break the ice in groups who are going to be working together intensively.

If you don’t want the religious imagery then I do a version called BFF - where everyone plays their own best friend.
