Method

Sit in a circle, on chairs, like you're all seated around the edge of a circular bar.

Everyone reacts as if their favourite drink has been served to them.

Mime picking it up and drinking it.

Now imagine you are being served your least favourite drink.

Before picking it up, ask yourself Who would drink something like this?

Become that person as you pick it up and drink it.

Now have a conversation with someone else in the bar, in character.

Teaching notes

Think about what sort of container your drink is served in? What is its weight? How do you hold it? Do you take short sips or long draughts? These are all important details.

This is part of Jill Bernard's idea of VAPAPO. It is the second P. P for Props. Props can create a character. In this exercise it is the drink that it making the character.

For a much simpler, less character focussed version of this game, see Familiar spacework.
